Audience and Institution Practice Essay

Assess the importance of marketing in the media area you have studied.
In the digital epoch, digitizing, makes it easier for media content to be digitized globally. Moreover, the accessibility of digital devices, allow people access to content that was out of reach or only available in certain areas. The triumph of media does have a major impact on the way things are distributed around the world.
Let us take the movie “Deadpool” for an example. The distributor for that movie used the internet in this case. They used it because the internet had the finest approach to denote the movie, universally vouching a higher exposure to the public and a more solicitous audience. By updating social media about the movie, Deadpool achieved in making a name for itself. Reynolds Fox also depended heavily on the flourishing marketing for the success of this movie, which made him a victorious icon in a short period of time.
The app YouTube is one of the biggest names in the social networking department; Fox used this as a strong point to further this movie to the next level. Fox posted many videos of Deadpool on this social media platform. Videos such as Deadpool celebrating various holidays and events. But he did not stop there. He then advertised the film’s DVD by releasing it along with a guest appearance on a YouTube channel known as Screen Junkies. This YouTube channel is best known for producing trailers of movies and TV shows. I remember when I was scrolling on YouTube and I first discovered that video. It seemed very interesting and had quite a lot of views. What really caught my attention during the review was when Deadpool showed up. I thought it was cool how they incorporated the actual character into the review. I showed it to my parents after watching it, and they thought it was hilarious and mentioned how they have seen the trailer on TV and said they were going to watch it very soon.
Regarding TV, may updates and trailers were seen on many entertainment shows and channels increasingly. Tv is one of the main used platforms besides social media. It is one of the easiest ways to access the latest news, your favorite TV shows, and upcoming movies. It is an adequate marketing scheme due to it being accessible to billions of people globally. I can recall a time when my parents were watching something about this movie on a TV show. I do not recall the name, but it showcased Deadpool knocking out a man who I believe was the host. These types of exposure are crucial for a new film that has a character that is not very known. It can grab the attention of the audience very easily.
Lastly, cross media took things to a whole new level when Manchester United and the studio showcased. This cross-promotion between the two organizations helped publicize the video to over 1.5 million views. This movie was also released on a newly worldwide owned holiday which is Valentines Day. The diversity in Deadpool’s release is to other superhero movies. That was an additional element of attentiveness for the audiences.
Nonetheless, this movie received recognition and additional profit from the screening in theaters or cinemas, DVD sales, Blu-ray and pay-to-watch or pay-to-download online services. This goes to show, that there is a lot of importance when it comes to the marketing in the media. It helps movies flourish and thrive. It can really bring a up and coming movie to the big screens when you add it across different platforms.

Extract Practice-24

                 By: Asia Monroe
                          Date: 4/22/20
                          Period:6
After watching the 24 extract, I believe the director is trying to convey the sense that this bomb that is bound to go off is very important. I feel the feeling the author is trying to give the audience is suspense. I believe this because most of the scenes in this extract are very suspense driven, in my opinion. I think the message behind this extract is to never give in, no matter how hard it gets. But I think the authors vision was to give the audience the feeling of seriousness and suspense.
Scene1, really goes towards the director’s vision because of the close-up. The close-up signifies in my eyes the importance and intensity of the character. When the man was asking Nina for a name, he looked into her eyes very intensely. This gave me a feeling that the name of the person was very important to the man, and he insisted on getting it. Like I said, the director’s vision to me is to give off the feeling of seriousness. This scene displays that by having the audience be directly face – to – face with the man when he is looking at Nina very seriously. It gives off the feeling of seriousness because the audience may feel like they are in Nina’s place, and being stared at.
Scene 2 goes towards the vision because of the split-screen. The split-screen shows the intensity and emotion when Nina was in a choke hold. One party displayed the feeling of panic and fear. The people running exhibit a feeling of seriousness by the way they were running. The man dropped everything and ran for the interrogation room. Especially with all the people running after him with such determination and purpose. The other party demonstrated both seriousness and suspense. It represents the feeling of suspense because nobody knows what the man is going to do to Nina. We do not know if she is going to die, or if she will be let loose. But it gives off the feelings of serious feelings because the man chocking out Nina is whispering to her and it was clear that she was struggling and in pain.
In scene 3, the soundtrack contributed to authors vision by giving off a feeling of seriousness. When the man was grabbing Nina’s neck the music suddenly played proposing that this scene is very important and grave. I know that if you play music along with something, you will remember it better. Maybe that was the director’s intent. To play this very profound music over this scene really made it that much more perilous. The scene also gave off a feeling overwrought because the way it was building up as the characters were in action.
Lastly, Dimmed/Dark lighting most definitely gave off a feeling of seriousness and suspenseful because usually when something is dimly lit in a movie it gives off a feeling of uncertainty. When a room is dimly lit is very imitating for various reasons. In real life, interrogation rooms are regularly dim, so I am guessing the director made it dim so it seems more realistic. But when a room is darker than others it can give the audience a feeling that something is about to go down, or it is very parlous.
I feel that I am right on the authors vision because of the evidence I have stated. The dimly lit room gave a feeling of uncertainty, the closeup gave a feeling of being in a very uncomfortable situation, the split screen gave the audience a feel of suspense, and the no sound can give off a feeling of seriousness just by the way the actors are looking at each other.

CCR

This is my CCR. This CCR took quite some time to do actually. But, it is supposed to be like a talk show taking place in this pandemic. I figured that this pandemic is so huge right now, that I would base this talk show off of it. Like we know, a lot of the activities we usually do outside, we have to do inside or not do it at all. Like news reporters have to stream from home. I got my idea to do this from watching the news a lot. Although usually you could see the news reporter along with the person speaking at the same time, my software did not allow me to do that. So, we continued to record it like this. I thought this was a pretty neat idea to do, and very creative. But for the last time, I hope you enjoy and stay safe!

My Final Movie

This is my Final Movie. I originally had the idea for a movie like this because action and horror movies are very popular in these days. My movie is about a family that is in an apocalyptic scenario. The rest of their family left without them because they would only allow a certain amount of people out of the state at a time. So, the mother, her two sons and nephew set out to leave. During this time, there were a lot of creatures (deadly creatures) that were hunting human flesh and blood. And if that's not enough to set you over the edge, the air was badly polluted with a deadly poison. In the beginning of the film you can see that nobody is covering their mouth with any kind of maks, but that's because the polluted air comes later in the movie. They had to leave their area due to the monsters, they weren't informed about this air until later in the film (that I was supposed to record). Due to this pandemic and my mom being terribly sick a lot, this was all of the footage I could record and get edited. We are not allowed to go anywhere, and it was too late for me to change up the whole story line..But, once again, please enjoy!

Music Video

This is my Music Video I recorded with my mom a couple of months ago. This music video was inspired by the artist Ariana Grande. My mom is the type of person who is very girly. So, of course I had her do a music video that involves Ariana Grande giving that she is also very girly. It honestly was difficult for me to find a song to do with my mom where she could keep up with the music. Most of the popular music people listen to now is very fast (and frankly not very understandable). But,this was a very fun piece to film. Although it took so long to record because of many altercations. This music video has some background to it because it represents how this specific girl can have almost everything she wants because she is very rich. We tried to impersonate that with my mom, but I am not sure how good it came out. (You can be the judge of that). But, enjoy!!

Commercial

This is my commercial I recorded along with two fellow classmates. This project was one of my favorites because the classmates I was working with were very helpful. It was also very easy for me to edit this project because I had a lot of assistance. This video is an ad like one for Dunkin' Donuts. Our ad is about how you feel before getting Dunkin' and how you feel after. It is there to help support how good the coffee works for people when they buy it. With this ad, we are trying to persuade the audience to buy our coffee. When coming up with this concept, it honestly was not that hard. Ads for different companies compete with other companies simultaneously. All we had to do was figure out who was going to do what, and what products from Dunkin' we were going to use. So without further ado, Enjoy the video, and stay safe!

Editing blog

During these past few weeks I have been editing, but I have not been able to blog about it. I have access at school to blog, but at home things are a bit difficult. Due to the coronavirus outbreak, I have not been able to film or edit. I had no access to school computers until I was able to get a computer from another school so that is why I have not been blogging. I am still not 100% sure what I am supposed to do for this class, but I am going to continue working on my video and my movie. I have to delete all the footage I recorded from before because I do not have the access to drive to the places I need too. I am not sure what I am going to do as of yet, especially considering that my mom is getting sick. But I will keep you updated. For now, I have edited the footage I needed for the peer review a while ago, but I had to delete it or all or else my storyline would not make sense. I will be posting a filming blog tommorrow, and hopefully this weekend I can film something. Stay safe!

Blog: Re-shoot

This past week we did out peer review at school. I already knew that most of the scenes I showed to the people that peer reviewed my work were not that good, so when I got home yesterday I re shot some scenes. For example, the first couple of scenes I needed to re shoot because my younger brother would not stop laughing at the camera. And towards the fighting scenes, some of them were very sloppy, and I know I need to re shoot and edit those as well. On the contrary, my cousin did an okay job. He did his scene and added expression to his face instead of looking dead. I do not remember 100% fully if he looked at the camera at any point, but if he did, I will have to re shoot that help as well. My mom was not feeling that way that day, so that is the reason why I did not shoot the whole opening sequence. May I add, that my film may be a little long. When I filmed the few little scenes, it came out to be 1:38 or something like that. The longest the film is supposed to be is 2:00 and this is too long for only about 5-6 scenes. I believe I may have filmed a few scenes too long, and gave some people more time on one scene. Some scenes that were only supposed to be about 2-3 seconds, ended up being about 5-6 seconds long. I will have to re-shoot those scenes as well. But this past weekend, I only re shot the first few scenes with my younger running into the house, to my mom driving away I am hoping this week I will be able to get some more scenes done as well.

Peer review blog

This is my peer review paper. I reviewed one of my close friends in my class. She did not review my opening sequence, but I did review hers. She only had a few scenes for me to review, but from what I saw, it was still pretty good. She correctly used all of the titles, she had them in the correct order as well. I really liked how she made the titles pop in. technically, her titles did not actually pop in, they actually faded in and out of the opening sequence. They were in legible reading, the font and color was very good as well. From the scenes that I saw in her opening sequence, I could not actually understand what was going on at first. But after watching it a couple of times I got the hang of it. From what she has so far, there is no real story except that there is a girl typing on her computer and then you hear people arguing in the background about a minute later. But I would actually love to watch her full opening sequence once its completed.

Blog: Film

Once again, I did not film. This time I actually got my camera from my teacher today. But, my parents got home late again. I am planning on asking for my camera for another day tomorrow, so I can record tomorrow. I get home pretty late after school, so if i come home and record first thing tomorrow, I will be able to start editing my footage at school this week and next week. I am getting nervous because it seems like every time I try to do anything regarding filming, it does not happen. I really do not want to get a 0 for my peer review assignment. I am also nervous for the peer review assignment because I know I wont have much footage for my peers to go over. But I will try to record at least the first 5-6 scenes because most of the scenes I have to record are going to take some time. I am hoping to have some footage so I have some things to re-shoot. I have been going over my scenes as usual because I want to make sure that everything goes as planned. I am really hoping that it all goes well...I have not posted an edit blog yet, because I have not been able to film. But the day I have my footage and start editing something. I will post an editing blog.

Blog: Why I did not Film

During this past weekend, I have not filmed anything. My mom was very sick with the flu, but she has been feeling better. If I am being honest, I forgot to ask my teacher for a camera the day after class. So, this weekend instead of filming, I studied over my shooting scripts that I wrote in my PowerPoint and tried to figure out how I would actually record it. I started to wonder what would happen if my mom got sick again, and thinking about what I would do if that did happen. Lately in my household, since I have been living with 10 other people, everyone has been getting sick. I only hope that nobody who I am using as actors in my opening sequence does not get sick anymore. Today before class is over, I am going to ask my teacher for a camera before class is over. I plan on filming this week after school and this weekend. We have to do a peer review next week, and I have to have something to show to the other kids for a big grade. I also have to edit something for the peer review as well. But I am planning on filming this week and editing as well.

Filming Blog: Why I did not film

So last weekend I did not film for many reasons. I got sick again, after just having the flu for a week. I started to get symptoms of the flu again and I got pretty worried so I decided to wait until this weekend to record. Not only was that a problem but my mom gets sick very fast. My mom started feeling pain in her kidneys so I decided not to force her into doing anything she can not do. In my other blogs I did say that my aunt would be replacing my mom in my opening sequence, but my aunt was not feeling well that day. Also, if I am being honest I did not get a camera from the school so I could film, so even if I had a camera, I would not be able to film anyway.  I am hoping that this weekend I will be able to film and actually get it all done, because we have to have something for my peer review to review. When I got home today I found out that my mom has the flu so I will probably have to film with my aunt playing as my mom for this opening sequence. Or, I can just film sometime next week or next weekend with the hopes that my mom feels better...

Planning Blog: Storyboard

Today, I started on my storyboard. In my storyboard I had to basically include everything everyone will be doing throughout the whole opening sequence. In my storyboard I also added what they will be doing in words underneath the picture. I was really tired because I have been up 7 doing homework and it is now 11 O'clock. It took me so long to complete this worksheet because there was a lot to do. Although all we had to do was draw pictures and explain what was in the pictures, this time around since we are filming a mini movie, I had to use one paper for one scene. So for example, Scene 1 was on 1 paper. And if you already saw my shooting script google slides showcase you would know that I put about 4-5 shooting script scenes. On the storyboards, we had to use 6 squares for every scene. So, what I did was I broke down my scenes into deeper details so I could fill up all of the boxes.

Planning blog: Titles

In this google slides presentation, I was talking about the Titles. I talked about the titles, fonts, spacing, contrast, and how the titles work and how they will exit and enter the screen. For the topic on fonts, I mentioned some fonts I would use in the opening sequence. I picked out my favorite fonts as well. I also mentioned the spacing, which is about how I would space the words in the opening sequence. When talking about the contrast, I was basically talking about the colors I would use in the opening sequence. When I was choosing the colors I would use, I had to think about what would go well with whatever the title was going on. For example, I would not choose white on white because nobody would be able to see it. Lastly, when I was mentioning the exiting and entering of the titles, I had to talk about how the titles would be on the screen and how they would leave and enter the screen.

Planning Blog: Plan Part 1

The planning blog is about the health, participants, location, schedule and titles. The health portion is about what who is helping out in case of any emergency. And also what will be used if anyone get hurts such as an aid-kit. The participant section within the google slides, is about who will be participating in the opening sequence. It also includes who will be helping out with writing, directing, actors, etc. The Location part of this google slides is about all the locations that I will be filming withing the opening sequence. So, every time we change the setting or location I have to write about it in the google slides. Lastly, the schedule section is talking about the schedule for when we are filming the actual opening sequence. I had to give the dates for this section, but I don't exactly know the dates for when we are filming. The last section in the google slides are titles. In this section, you have to give your overall ideas for the titles and how they will be edited and made into the opening sequence. But that's what's in the google slides below.

Planning Blog: ( Sound/ Dialogue Script )

This is my dialogue script for my movie. This is basically an audio script on the shooting script. What that means is in this google slides instead of writing out what everyone is going to be doing I will be writing out what people will be saying. So this is the second step of completing my movie. Sometimes while writing out the dialogue for the movie, I get nervous that I may have messed up on something or that I may have added too much to one scene. I remember that my teacher taught us that each scene is supposed to be 6 seconds long. I could be overthinking it, but I feel like I may be messing up. Anyway, the google slides is about writing what people are going to say during every scene. Not including the actions of what people will do, but it does include angles, and movemetnts. Unlike the other google slides. So, here are my slides.

Planning Blog ( Shooting Script )

I just completed my shooting script blog for my movie. It did not take as long as I thought it would to make this google slide. During this google slide presentation, I had to basically write out the script for shooting the movie. This presentation did not include any dialogue, or camera angles, it was all morally the shooting actions everyone would be doing while I am recording. I thought this assignment would take longer but it was actually very fast, but it still did take some time to complete.
In this presentation I did include the actors name so that way nobody is confused on who is who when I do complete my Dialogue/Sound script. Something I also did during this presentation was give many details on what the characters would be doing in the specific scene. It was kind of weird to write it out when I could not really write ant dialogue, so I did my best to make it make sense. But overall the assignment went very well, and I am proud of myself for not waiting until the last minute. So here is my google slides on my shooting script.

Title Research: Godzilla

I watched the opening sequence of Godzilla a couple of days ago, and there is a lot to unfold. There are 32 titles within the opening sequence. The images in the opening sequence prioritize the opening sequence by adding in suspense. There are explosions and a big monster in the ocean in the opening sequence. It causes suspense and fear. But it could also cause excitement because people do not know what is going to happen. The images carry the feeling of suspense, and anxiety. There are big explosions and a monsters going off in your face. And also there were helicopters and there was a big tsunami. The genre is reinforced with technical codes by the setting and audio. Symbolic codes were used mise en scene and colors as well. There was not that much color used in the actual opening sequence of this particular movie, but when there was color it was meant to be there for dramatic action. The film establishes enigma from the outset by giving the feeling of panic and drama. From the pictures and videos of fire, the tsunami, and helicopters, the audience could be feeling frightened or very interested. Some things that was used to ensure the audience would be interested is basically all of the action and explosions used in the sequence. The music could be a factor that was used as well. Lastly, technology was used effectively during this opening sequence by using editing and filming. Technology is a huge part in filming and doing almost everything with filming a movie or even just the opening sequence.

Title Research: Aqua Man

I watched the opening sequence yesterday during 6th period, and today during second period. And there a lot of things that I noticed while watching this opening sequence. This is my 3rd time watching an opening sequence and I am started to really understand how to interact with my audience, and keep them interested while playing my opening sequence. The first thing I realized why watching this opening sequence is how many titles it has. It has 34 titles just like Black Panther. Some images prioritized in the sequence were pictures of items from aqua man's homeland. There were a lot of statues, and there is water everywhere. The first thing that comes on the screen is actually a little lighthouse. Everything looks very small as well may I add. Some connotations that the images add are very architectural and historical vibes. And the feeling of being by the beach. The lighthouse give off a beach kind of feeling. While the statues, ships, and buildings gave a architectural feel. Genre is reinforced through symbolic codes by giving the audience a lot of objects to look at, along with color, angles, and lighting throughout the whole the thing. Technical codes are used setting, and editing. The opening sequence gives off the enigma of excitement, adventure, eagerness, and enthusiasm. Some strategies that are used to keep the audience interested is the colors, action, and the movement in the beginning. Technology has been used effectively by changing basically everything. From filming the actual opening sequence, to editing. The angles used in the sequence really changed the way it looks and gives it a whole new vibe.

Title Research: Black Panther

After watching the opening sequence of the movie Black Panther, I have seen a lot just like I did with the movie Venom. There are 34 titles displayed during the opening sequence of this movie. Some images prioritized in the opening sequence was pictures of the actors and the costumes. It was more like moving things on the screen. The opening sequence was very colorful and fun. There was also a lot of  music in the background and it added a lot of action. Some connotations the images carry are happy, exciting, and, fun. The music added in the background was very upbeat and nice. But the actual opening sequence itself even without the music was pretty cool. It was very colorful and there was a lot going on. The opening sequence uses technical codes by camerawork, audio, lighting, and editing. The film uses symbolic codes by uses setting, mise en scene, acting, and color. The film establishes an enigma by giving off a fun and exciting kind of vibe. Some strategies that are used to ensure the audiences interest, is the colors and the music. The song that was used in the background is a very popular song so people may have gotten excited and started to sing along when they heard. Technology has been used effectively by being able to edit in a lot of people into the opening sequence and making i very interesting. The camera angles used also made it attracting because it was like the camera was chasing the titles.

Title Research: Venom

While watching the opening sequence of Venom, I have noticed a lot of things.
There were 23 displayed opening sequences in the films. Some images pronotized in the opening sequences was a small video. The mini video in the beginning was about 5 seconds and it was a shot of the city and it included cars and buildings. After that, the rest of the video is filled with pictures that look kind of confusing. They are filled with black and white shapes, and it looks like someone is spilling black ink on a piece of paper and you are watching it spread. The connotations the images carry are a kind of horror feel. The pictures in it do give a thriller feeling too. And you can not really tell what the movie is going to be about just by the opening sequence. But the music may make you think that it will be a horror movie. Genre is reinforced through symbolic codes by setting, mise en scene, acting, and color. Genre is reinforced through technical codes by camerawork, audio, lighting, and editing. The film establishes enigma because of the pictures and the video in the beginning. You can not really tell what the movie is about just by watching the opening sequence. Some strategies that are used to ensure the film appeals its audience is by using very abstract pictures and audio. You have to have your opening sequence relate to your audience on a certain level to keep them interested. Technology has been used effectively by being able to photoshop different things into the film or pictures. You can edit different things into a opening sequences such as animation.

Genre Research: Watch the Titles Website

In this website when you first open the website you see a slideshow of different movies you can watch titles of. The saying on this website is "Forget the movie, Watch the titles!". Also, some things you see are options for video games, and interviews for a couple of examples. They offer a search section, titles sequence, and other options. I am researching on this website for my project I am doing later on. I am on this website to get ideas for my project. Some of the things I learned about from this website is the same thing ad the last one. I learned how to count the titles in the movie. I also learned that a simple title sequence can really change your view on a movie. You can guess the genre of a movie just based on the title sequence. Making a title sequence connect with a movies genre like making a horror title sequence related to the movie is really important.

Title Research: Art of the Title

I went on the Art of the Title website today and yesterday. Some of the things I saw on the website are a lot of title sequences for different movies. There are a lot of movies, interviews, and series from Netflix. Everything on the website are opening titles of different movies and shows etc. Some things I learned, was that different movies have a different opening title for different reasons. Some movies give off horror, happy, comical vibes when doing the opening titles because of the genre. For example, the movie underwater has a horror feeling to the opening titles. The music and the way it is graphically designed really bring a new feeling into the whole thing. What I researched on this website is different movie titles for action movies. I have to research 4 different movie titles for my project. I researched some action movie opening tittles. I found some opening titles of action movies.

Genre Research: Hunger Games (Catching Fire) Movie Review

A couple of days ago I watched Hunger Games. The movie in my opinion was actually really good. Here are some C.L.A.M.P.S, and CAMS, from the movie. Along with common editing, sound, lighting, and some things I liked and did not like about the movie.

C- Some costumes used in this movie were basic steel looking outfits. Some of the outfits were athletic, or workout looking outfits because everyone was fighting.
L- The lighting during the movie was mostly lighting from outside. Natural lighting, and some scenes had low-key lighting.
A- The actors in this movie were typical looking people. But, the cast of the movie were very diverse and there was a little bit of everyone. It was like a melting pot of people.
M- Most makeup used in the movie was blood, and excess skin if needed.
P- Some props used in the movie were typical swords and there were also bow n arrows involved too
S- Some setting used in the movie were in the forest and on a beach.

During the movie I noticed some CAMS as well. Some ANGLES I noticed in the movie were eye level, high and low angle, and long shots. Some camera MOVEMENTS I saw in the movie were tilts and tracking shots. And lastly, some camera SHOTS I saw in the movie were two and three shots.
Some common editing used in the movie would be cross-cutting, and cutaways. Some common sounds, are digetic, sound bridges and dialogue. Lastly some common elements are the feelings of sadness, anxiety, and adrenaline. Some things I liked about the movie is that it kept me interested the whole time. There was never really a dull moment. But some things I did not like was that some of the scenes did not make sense and they were graphic.

Genre Research: Movie review (The Thining)

Yesterday I watched The Thining. This Movie did have C.L.A.M.P.S, CAMS, and the common editing, sound, and elements.
C- Some costumes used in this movie looked just like any regular outfit people would wear on a day-today basis. Except for the people who looked like they were on the SWAT team or working with the police.
L- some lighting used in this movie was low-key lighting. Low-key lighting is when the lighting is very low on a scale of illumination. Also, dimmed lighting was also a big one in this movie. Alongside of dimmed lighting, there was flashing strobe-like lights, and spotlight moments.
A- The actors in this movie looked like regular people you would see on the street honestly.
M- Some makeup used in this movie was probably some makeup to fix up any "imperfections" on the actors face and fake blood as well.
P- The props in this movie are similar to the props in most action movies. Like, guns, knives, flashlights, etc.
S- Lastly, the settings in this movie were inside of a building, in an office and a house.

For CAMS, there was a lot of camera ANGLES such as two-shot, three-shot, a lot of closeups, and tracking shots. The camera MOVEMENTS in this movie were tilts for when the main character fell, zooms, and flash pans. Last but not least, the SHOTS in this movie were POV and over the shoulder.
Some of the common editing that was used in this movie was, cross-cutting, cutaway, and shot reverse shot. Common sounds that were used in this movie were sound bridges, score and incidental music. Lastly, some common editing that was in this movie was cross cutting, eye-line match, and reaction shots. Some things I liked about this movie was how intriguing it was and how it kept me on my toes the whole time. I was never really bored. But some things I did not like is how sometimes I could not understand what was going on, but it wasn't really anything serious.

Genre Research: My second action movie review (Black Panther)

Today I watched Black Panther. I really like this movie not only for the action, but for its back story and how it included African-American characters. What I did not like is how they would jump from scene to scene sometimes and I was completely confused on what was going on.
They did use some elements of CLAMPS.
Costumes- were used for the villains and the superheroes such as capes the famous necklace wear that Black Panther Himself wears on his suit, etc.
Lighting- Most of the lighting used in this movie was lighting from the outside. But, some lighting that was used while the actors were fighting was illuminating and low-light.
Actors- Most of the actors had the same body type, and most of them were African-American.
Makeup- The makeup used in this movie was all over the face because it was apart of their tradition in the movie. Also Micheal B. Jordan had many spots on his body because each spot represent every person he killed.
Props- some used were clearly weapons and robot parts for one of the superheroes sister. And the masks that the bad guys stole from the museum.
Setting- Most of the settings were outside, but some were in the city, in a museum, and in a forest.
This movie did include CAMS AS WELL.
Camera angles- high angle for when they were fighting, and dutch angles to show everything going on when they were fighting because it was very chaotic.
Camera movements- some movements that were included in this movie were zooms for when the characters were looking at something serious, a tracking shot to follow them when they were fighting and a panoramic to show two people fighting like going from one person to another.
Lastly, a Camera shot- some camera shots that were used was an establishing shots to establish where they were recording. And three-shots, where they had three people in the camera, and two-shot.
Some elements that were involved in this movie were the emotions that it gave me. I got emotional from all the relationships and friendships that were included in the movie. It was so cute to me.
Some sound editing I noticed in this movie were a sound bridge to move the movie along, digetic sound, non-diegetic sound, and lots of dialogue.
Lastly, some editing I noticed in the movie were cut-away, shot reverse shot, and eye-line match.

Genre Research: Movie Review (Avengers Endgame)

Today I watched the action movie Avengers Endgame. This movie did include CLAMPS. It had a C- There were a lot of costumes. Almost every character had a costume on. The characters mostly wore capes, and tight armor looking outfits.
L- The lighting in this movie seemed to be illuminating from an actual outside area that they may have used to film. And, there was also a lot of high-key lighting involved in the movie when the characters would fight.
A-  Some angles I noticed during this movie is eye level. When the character would see something very important the camera would show them at eye level. Another angle I noticed, was a long shot. When the big fight scene at the end took place, they used a long shot to show everyone going head-to-head.
M-Some movements I noticed during the movie is zooming in on characters when something important would happen to them or another character. Also, when they would use tracking shots to make the audience feel as if they were in the movie with that character.
P- A couple props I noticed are the hand gauntlet thing that Thanos wore on his hand. And also, the guns and swords were also props.
S- Lastly, some setting places that I saw were in a field, somewhere near a very important glowing ball. Another place was at a house and in the city.
Some CAMS are high angle, and dutch.
Movements-  are tracking shot, and over the shoulder shots most certainly.
Shots - some that i noticed were long shots and tracking shot.
Next, some things I disliked about the movie is that sometimes some of the scenes did not make much sense. And also that one of my favorite characters passed away. But I loved the action, and how the movie always kept everyone on their toes and very invested in the whole thing. Towards the end, the fight scene with all superheroes and Thanos's team was probably my favorite part.
Some editing I noticed was a lot of jump cutting. And cutaways were a big one in this movie.
There was also a lot of incident sound, and sound bridges involved as well.
Lastly, some elements were that they always kept me on my toes and there was a lot of emotion.

Genre Research: My decision

The three genres I originally chose to research were romance, action, and horror. I am leading more towards an action genre. I wanted to to do a horror film, but I really do not know how I will be able to do that with a house full of 11 people. And I did and still do have amazing pitches for a horror movie, but filming it is the really hard part. Since there are a lot of people at my house I could definitely do action as my genre. Especially because it is mostly boys and they love to fight. I think doing an action film will be really fun, because I could come up with amazing story lines and apply that to the project. Also, my brothers and cousins love to act so I wanted to include them in something fun.

Genre Research: My two genres

Today I have researched two genres that I have a lot of interest in. The two genres are horror, and action. In a previous blog I stated that I was leaning more toward the horror genre, and I still am, but once I went back to think about things I realized that this could be an exciting opportunity for me to use my background info on the action genre and put it to the test.
The horror genre is one of the most used genre's along side of action. During my research I looked up some of the C.L.A.M.P.S used in horror movies. Some COSTUMES they use are all different depending on the character. For some villains and bad guys they wear fake animal fur, wigs, masks. and a whole lot of makeup. For example, the character Jason, he wears dirty clothes and a mask to hide his identity. For LIGHTING, the most used light is uplighting. Uplighting is when the light is on the floor and it is faced up. The other most famous lighting is spotlighting. That is when the light is focused solely on one person or object. It creates suspense and makes the audience nervous of what is to come. For ACTORS, the type of actors that are the bad guys are usually a big build on the upper half and very strong. The characters for the victims are usually smaller. MAKEUP in horror movies is sometimes very excessive because of the villains. The victims usually use light makeup since they are playing themselves and sometimes use fake blood when they get hit or when they die. PROPS used in horror movies are usually a fake knife and other weapons that the villains use. And other times the victims use other weapons to fight the villains. Most SETTINGS used in horror movies are a barn, a house, sheds, walls (surprisingly), and basements. While looking up the C.L.A.M.P.S, I also looked up CAMS, which is camera, angles, movement, and shots.
A camera angle they use in horror films is a tilt. A tilt creates tension to shots, and could simplify a supernatural being.
Some shots that are used in horror films are shot reverse shots to go back in time and show something that was missed.
Lastly, some movements used in horror films are pan, and tracking shots.  A tracking shot really builds suspense to the movie because it puts the audience in the position of the character so it makes them feel like they are in the movie.
Some editing skills that are used are jump-cuts, split screen, and shot reverse shot.
Sounds that have been in horror movies are screaming, and slashes from a weapon. They use dialogue, voice over, and sound motif as some examples of what sound they use.
Elements used used in horror movies are the feeling of fear, shock, and disgust.
Some things I like and dislike in horror movies are the feelings emulated by the movie. And what I dislike is the graphical scenery.
I am going to make this paragraph a little shorter now. The C.L.A.M.P.S in an action movie is, C- some costumes used in action movies are typical superhero outfits, and just regular clothing sometimes. L- Some lighting used are natural lighting and key lighting. A- Some actors used in action movies are usually very athletic and flexible people for the superheroes. M- Makeup typically used in action movies is usually just fake blood for when they get hit or anything. P- Some props used in action movies are swords, guns. knives, laser beams, etc. S- Some settings used in action movies are outside, a train station, or in a house. For CAMS,
For camera angles, usually eye level, high angle, and low angle.
Camera movements that are used are panoramic, and tracking shot.
Lastly, some Shots used are close-ups, two shots and three shots.
Common editing skills are cutaway, cross-cutting, and split screen ( like the horror movies ).
Some common sounds used are grunts and stuff when they fight.
But some sounds in the Cambridge way, are a soundtrack, and incidental music.
Some things I like about action movies are that they cause a lot of adrenaline when there is a lot going on. And some things I do not like about action movies is sometimes there are bad effects.

Genre Research: Action Genre PowerPoint

In this assignment we did a couple months ago, we learned about a specific genre. My groups genre was action. I feel like because I have studied the action genre in the past, that it would be a great genre to use in my video, but it is good to change things up a bit. During this assignment, I learned a lot about action and what it is really all about. I learned all about the camera angles, shots, CLAMPS, etc. I watched a couple of action movies after completing this assignment, and I saw that the camera angles and shots are mostly the same in all action movies. I am happy to learned about this genre because it has taught me a lot...

My two pitches for the project

When I narrow my 3 choices down to two I have to say I want to go with either action or horror. I want to chose to use action as my genre because I think action is really cool. I think it is very cool because action movies include a lot of physical features. The camera angles and shots also are very interesting in these types of movies. Some movies for example are, Gemini Man, Terminator, and Avengers Endgame. These movies did not only include just fighting, but they come with loads of emotion. Action movies I feel like are all about really engaging your audience. The fans of Avenger movies do not only love them for the fighting, but the story line and emotion that come with it. In Avengers Endgame, a couple of main characters died, which cause a lot of sadness for some audiences, but it made a lot of people want to watch it. Action movies in general really interest me because most things are unpredictable and you never really know what is coming.
My second choice is horror. I think I want to to make a horror film because I love horror films. They really interest me, even though I always get scared to go to sleep after. Unlike action movies, most horror movies do not have any sad scenes, but it causes adrenaline and anxiety. Some movies for example are, The Conjuring, The Babadook, and Saw. These movies are great examples of great horror films because not only do they adrenaline, but they give off a feeling of suspense. Suspense in horror films are one of my favorite things when I watch them. Leaving your audience in suspense is something not many like, but the ones who do, love it. The feelings of adrenaline, suspense, and moderate anxiety is what makes a horror film. And, I want to engage my audience when they are watching my project, so I feel like a horror film will do that for me.
After all of this thinking and reviewing my reasons, I think I want to use my pitch about the horror film. I already have loads of ideas for this idea, and I am excited to see what I can do with all of them. I am thinking of making something related to a recent movie I watched where the characters are watching TV and then they hear something and they get scared...but there are going to be many twists within my video so it's not as predicting as some. I think it could be very fun to film as well. And, horror movies usually have a lot of camera angles and shots that I could use to get the best grade possible. But that is all I have for now, I will keep brainstorming and see what I come up with. Until next time!

1st Blog- Start of Final Task

Hi, my name is Asia Monroe and Happy New Year!!! So, it is 2020 and I am aspiring to change this year. I had the flu last week so that is why this blog is coming in later than everyone else's. I went to the doctor on Monday and they diagnosed me with Flu B. I feel like my 2020 year so far has been pretty bad and I am trying my best to get myself back on track. I want to work even harder this semester in school especially in this class. I was doing really well in this class last semester and in the 1st quarter so I want to do it again. I want to not only do well in school, but do well in the Cambridge program. It would really mean a lot to me.
Some things I have learned so far this year, is that I can really do anything I put my mind to. Walking into the Cambridge class was kind of nerve-racking for me, but I have learned how to do a lot so I feel a lot more confident. I have learned how to use a camera, and editing software. I learned how to use a camera from my teacher, but some of the things I know is how to attach it to a tri-pod and take it off. It is actually harder than it responds. I learned how to edit from my teacher as well, but I mostly learned from YouTube when I really needed help. I also learned about CLAM, and CLAMPS. Basically, each letter stands for something else. (C) in the word CLAMPS, means Camera, (L), means lighting, (A) means angle, (M) means movement, (P) means props, and (S) means shots. When learning everything, you learn how to apply them when watching film.
My pitch ideas for my film, are to film a horror film. I would start it off by showing someone watching a scary movie. And it would be very quiet within that moment. The camera would then turn to the screen and when the jump scare on the screen pops up, it would cause a scare to the audience. After that, I would do scary things around the house to intrigue the audience to get them into it. The next kind of movie I would film would be an action movie. I would most likely have two people fighting over something and then someone else intrudes to try and break it up. And then that person would end up getting punched and start fighting everyone. It would cause a mess, and then once they stop fighting they will forgive each other. Lastly, my other pitch is romance. I really like romance, so I decided on doing this. I will have two people who have just finished getting out of an argument start to talk about how they really feel about the situation. And it would end with the two characters figuring out the situation and apologizing to one another, and either kiss or hug it out. And that is what I am planning on doing.
